DISTILLERY OF THE YEAR 2022 at the WORLD SPIRITS AWARDS
We started our journey to freedom in 2007, when we began to create our spirits in the garage of our home. Today people from all over the world enjoy our creations, which are still hand crafted. We might have left the garage behind us, but we took the "spirit" of our humble beginnings with us – That freedom to do the things our way and as we believe them to be good and worthy of our effort.

Pure and smooth mountain water from the Kor Alps is the base on which the taste can really unfold. All fruits, grain, herbs and other ingredients, that grow here in Styria, are sourced from regional farmers, which we all know personally and trust. Ingredients, that partly come from far away, are sourced only from partners that we can trust. We are not in a rush when it comes to quality. This is because we want to wholeheartedly stand behind the products that get into our bottles. There are no compromises. Because when it comes out of the bottle, it should always be only one thing: the purest joy.

GENERATION by Kiera and Spencer Chaplin
The GENERATION product range by Kiera and Spencer Chaplin includes three products: Generation Generation Aperitif, Generation Vodka and Irish Single Malt Whiskey. We developed them for and with the siblings Kiera and Spencer Chaplin.
THE IDEA
Kiera and Spencer are deeply rooted in their family and feel at home in many places, especially where their family is. Both feel a strong connection to their Irish roots, but ultimately home is a feeling for them, not a place. As siblings, they are similar and yet so different. While Kiera's whole presence is reminiscent of the golden era of Hollywood with all its glamour, Spencer, in contrast, embodies the cool musician vibe.
They love special occasions with loved ones - having a house full of guests. It's about togetherness and sharing emotions and memories. So, the idea of creating their own alcohol brand was obvious, which lead them to us, the rest is history.
THE PRODUCTS
APERITIF GENERATION
The aperitif is a bitter fruit liqueur, with 16 %vol. The bitter notes come from gentian extract and the fruity notes from raspberry and grapefruit.
Description: extremely fruity nose of raspberry and grapefruit and slightly tart hints of gentian. On the palate, the pleasant bitter notes of gentian are followed by fruity notes of raspberry and grapefruit.
To be mixed with Pink Grapefruit filler, Champagne, or wine and soda.
It was awarded with a GOLD medal at Las Vegas Spirits Awards 2024.
VODKA GENERATION
The vodka is made from ultra-pure wheat distillate, whith 40 %vol. After being adjusted to drinking strength, the vodka matures for a few months in stainless steel tanks to lose its roughness so that it lives up to its name “little water” and can be drunk almost like water.
Description: crystal clear nose with fruity notes and cereal aromas, the taste is absolutely clear and mild with cereal notes in the finish.
It was awarded with a PLATINUM medal at Las Vegas Spirits Awards 2024.
IRISCH SINGLE MALT WHISKEY
The whiskey is an Irish single malt which, in a departure from tradition, was only distilled twice. As Irish whiskeys are known for their fruitiness, we have opted for a younger version, as the fruitiness diminishes with ageing. This 3-year-old whiskey impresses with its notes of banana, fresh apple and wheat beer, but has a long-lasting finish thanks to its 46% vol. The whiskey has its natural color and was matured for several weeks after being adjusted to drinking strength in order to blend harmoniously with the primary rock water of the Styrian Koralpe.
Description: delicately fruity nose with hints of banana, fresh apple and wheat beer, sweet vanilla aromas from the oak barrel and ripe fruit. The taste is a mirror image of the aroma with lots of fruity notes, pleasantly sweet woody notes and a long finish.
As the Whiskey was not ready, when the tasting for the Las Vegas Spirits Awards took place, we will have to wait for its first medals. 😉
Distillery Krauss Rum: coquetting with the yeast
Rum is the spirit which is most affected by the choice of yeast and the fermentation conditions. We use two different yeast strains which results in two unique rum flavours varying from banana to honey, ananas and other fruits. Combined with the oak flavours of vanilla, caramel, biscuit and smoky notes you may start to an exciting journey of taste.
Distillery Krauss Whisk(e)y: find the difference and taste the uniqueness
Whiskey or Whisky? No problem, we produce both. We offer corn-based Whiskey similar to Bourbon, but also Grain and Malt Whisky. All our Whiskies pass through the same manufacturing process at our distillery but are so different and unique. Taste the wonderful and complex fusion of cereal spirit, oak and best mountain water.
Distillery Krauss Gin: feel the powerful pureness of juniper
Gin is a very interesting playground for every progressive distiller. There are so many botanicals and fruits for creating different Gins and so much tasteful statements to make. We define our Gins as London Dry Gin if there is nothing added but water after maceration and distillation and as Dry Gins if something natural like saffron is added or maturing in oak cask is done. The goal of all our creations was to have a very intense Gin but definitely also one that is clear and pure.
Distillery Krauss Brandy: back to our roots
When we started distilling back in 2007 in our garage, we started with the kings and queens of Austrian spirits – fruit brandies. Fruit brandies are the most honest spirits when it comes to showing quality of the raw materials, used equipment and expertise of the distiller. Why’s that? A fruit brandy can only be as good as the used fruits and what the distillery is able to get out of them. This is why we are especially proud of more than 60 Gold and Double Gold Medals that our brandies have won over the last 15 years.
Distillery Krauss Flavored Vodka: flavored by nature
The flavors for our Organic Flavored Vodkas are carefully handcrafted in our garage distillery out of best organic raw materials. Compounded with the organic base alcohol these flavors from nature lead to a perfect smooth and delicate experience.
Distillery Krauss Distilled Anise: enjoy the sweetness of the seed
Anise is always the last one to try in our tastings because of its intensity. Anethole is the essential oil in anise seeds. It is very tasteful and sweet. That is why our Distilled Anise tastes so sweet although there is no sugar added. If it is just mixed with cold water or ice cubes are added the Anise shows its density and full aromatic profile.
Distillery Krauss Liqueur: naturally orange
The distillates for our Liqueurs are carefully handcrafted out of sun-ripened organic oranges. The pure taste of fruity orange is refined with just the right amount of sweetness to complete the harmonic unique experience. Additionally, one Liqueur is mixed with our wood cask matured Apple Brandy by what a completely new taste arises.
